Can a computer play like a human? It is a very interesting question. They
are certainly very good helpers. I use "fritz" (chess playing program) to
analyse the games. While analysing this game I found that my evaluation of
the game is completely different from Fritz's. Another very interesting point
of this game is that it illustrates that a bishop is not always the same value
as a knight. 1.d4 c6 2.c4 Nf6 3.Nf3 d6 4.g3 g6 5.Bg2 Bg7 6.Nc3 0-0 7.0-0
Na6 8.e4 Bg4 9.Qb3 [9.h3 Book recommends h3 with white trying to get some
more space. The game Michel Saucey (2319)- Antonio Antunes (2496) played in
2000 followed 9...Bxf3 10.Bxf3 Nc7 11.Be3 Nd7 12.Bg2 e5 13.f4 f6 14.dxe5 dxe5

13.e5! An interesting move. White has two bishops so they are trying to
open up the position. e5 looks a little bit risky as the pawn on e5 could
be weak. 13...Qb4!? [13...dxe5 Trying to play against the weak e5 pawn.
14.dxe5 c5 (14...Qb4) 15.Nd5 Qe6 16.Bf4 Nxe5 17.Rfe1 White has compensation
for the pawn.] 14.exd6 Qxa3 15.bxa3 exd6 16.Ne4 c5! The computer prefers
d5. I think the move played in the game is better because it forces swapping
black - squared bishops off the board. After that black will have two knights
versus knight and a bad white bishop. Even if black loses the d6 pawn the
pawn structure (double pawns a2 and a3 and c5 square for a black knight) should
give black a small advantage. Unless white has some concrete moves black will
be better. Do you think a can computer understand this? 17.Rad1 cxd4 18.Bxd4

b6 27.Rd5 Nc6 28.Nb5 Re8 29.Rd6 Na5 30.Bb3 Re7 31.Nd4 f5! Stoping white
playing f5 and insuring that black will have a good square for their knight.
32.Kf1 Ne4 33.Rd8+ Kg7 34.Nf3 Rc7 35.Ne5 Nc5 36.Bc2 Nc6 37.Rd6 Nxe5!
Now the weak pawn on e5 and superiority of black's knight over the bishop
gives black a winning edge. 38.fxe5 Kf7 39.Bb3 Re7 40.Rd5 Ke6 41.a4 Rd7
