Prizes
Format:   Nine round swiss with ratings based rankings.  The tournament will be accelerated at the discretion of the arbiter.  Unrated players will be provisionally rated.
Rate of play:   40/90 and then 30/30 repeating.
Scoring:   Score sheets must be kept by both players and the original copy left in the box provided at the completion of the game.
Open to:   All senior and junior members.
Entries close:   7:45 pm Friday 5th May.
Field limit:   96
Ratings:   All games will be VCA rated.
Entry fee:   $20 or $15 concession.  Players entering and paying their entry fee on or before Tuesday 2nd May will receive a $5 discount.
VCA registration:   $5.00 for the tournament is included in the entry fee.
Starting time:   Games shall start at 8:00 pm sharp.  However, clocks shall only be started on the instruction of the arbiter.
Late arrivals:   The arbiter will do his best to avoid forfeit wins due to unannounced absence of players.  Competitors not present at the venue at 8:30 pm will run the risk of being taken out of the draw for that round.  The games of their scheduled opponents will then be redrawn if possible.
Draw:   Made using Swiss Perfect 98 as directed by the arbiter.

Postponements:   Postponements should be avoided.  You must ask Gerrit Hartland 9878 3163 for a postponement as early as possible, but no later than 24 hours before the start of the game.  If he agrees to your request, you must then ask your opponent.  If he or she agrees to an alternative date, it should be no later than the Wednesday following.  If your opponent does not agree to your request, and you still cannot play, you will have to forfeit the game.  Whatever happens you must inform the arbiter of your arrangement, and of course inform him of the result of your game.  A player cannot postpone a final round game.  A player arriving at the board 1 hour after the scheduled start forfeits the game.
Forfeits:   Players who forfeit twice or have been taken out of the draw twice will be withdrawn from the tournament.
Laws of chess:   Laws of chess and all FIDE laws of chess, tournament rules and swiss draw rules apply.
Ties:   Ties will be broken with the Median-Buchholz tie-breaking system.
Prizes:   Perpetual trophy to the winner for one year.  A minimum of 50% of the entry fees will be distributed as prizes.  Players can only win one prize.  In ties for places, prizemoney will be shared.  In a tie for 1st the title will be decided by a playoff of 2 games between 2 players or a single round robin in the case of 3 or more players.
