changes in the format for this year, not in the least to the prize
fund. The first prize is now a whopping [for the Box Hill Chess Club]
$500 and minor prizes total the whole of last year's prize fund.
Rates of play now match the standard FIDE rate of 90 minutes plus 30

| Doeberl Cup The ACT's
annual Doeberl Cup Easter tournament attracted an enormous field of 223
players in 3 divisions. The Box Hill Chess Club was represented by 11
players in the premier division, 7 players in the major, and 7 in the
minor. I wonder how the organisers coped with these huge numbers. I hope
for their sake they did not all play transfer between rounds. |
Box Hill Club Championship.
First round set to start this Friday April 16. Due to the absence of
several of our top juniors for the first round there will be
opportunities for those who cannot attend on this date to play catch up
games the following Tuesday.
After round 2 the field seems to have settled down with 94 players
participating. The long awaited return of former BHCC vice president has
not taken place and we now hope to see him at the Vic Open |
